Features

Multiple instances, headless mode, shared directories, Rosetta, and bridged networking — built around Apple’s Virtualization.framework.

Multiple VM instances

Run multiple virtual machine instances simultaneously so you can develop, test, and experiment in parallel without juggling a single box.

Headless mode

Run a VM in the background without a graphical window. Useful for servers, long-running tasks, and keeping your desktop clear while instances stay alive.

Shared directories

Cheetah supports sharing files between the host and guest operating system.

Shared directories in macOS VMs are available on macOS 13 and newer.

To access shared directories from a Linux guest, mount the virtual filesystem manually:

mkdir /tmp/mountpoint
mount -t virtiofs com.apple.virtio-fs.automount /tmp/mountpoint

Rosetta for x86_64 Linux binaries

Run x86_64 Linux binaries under ARM Linux on Apple silicon.

Turn on Rosetta via Settings → Rosetta. Then follow Mount the Shared Directory and Register Rosetta to activate it.

Bridged network mode

Enable bridged networking for seamless connectivity between virtual machines and the host system — so guests can appear on the same network as your Mac when you need them to.
